Hello world!
Meet Chris — By Chris on July 26, 2009 at 6:31 amWow. I’ve actually done it. After years of debating and considering, whinging and complaining – not to mention outright dithering – I’ve finally created a blog of my own. Woo hoo!
I’ve developed Chris Around the World as a way to share my current adventures, both on the road and exploring my backyard, with friends, family and interested readers (who I sincerely hope become friends, through the wonder of social media). Here’s what you’ll find as I move forward:
Trip reports. I’m lucky enough to travel frequently, both in my personal life and occasionally for my job. I’ll be posting some highlights from major trips, along with one or two things that didn’t work out as planned. Hopefully this information can help you while planning your own adventure. Feel free to email and ask questions – I’m happy to help!
Memorable meals. There’s no getting around it – I like to eat (and drink), and have been known to plan entire trips around seeking out a specific food. I’ll post photos and reviews of my faves along the way, just to make you hungry.
Daytripper. While nothing makes me happier than booking a plane ticket somewhere far away, I also enjoy mini-jaunts that can take place in a day or weekend. Luckily, my husband Don does too, so we hit the road in his Jeep nearly every weekend. I’ll post photos and write about some of our favorite getaways.
Tricks of the trade. As my ethical guidelines state, I travel anonymously and do not take freebies or press trips. But in the last few years as a travel journalist, I have picked up a few tips from both colleagues and readers about how to snag the best airfares and hotel deals. I’ll try to share some here on the blog.
Miscellaneous: I have a lot of different interests: wine, books, 80s pop, cheesy TV shows usually aimed at a teen audience. Oh yeah, and journalism, which I’ve been practicing professionally since my mentorship at my local free weekly newspaper when I was 16. So once in a while, you may be subjected to rants on these subjects. Feel free to join in!
Whew! I think that’s it, for now. Let the games begin!
