My trip report from last year’s Costa Rica excursion is up in the blog’s Recent Trips section. We cut a swath down the country’s Caribbean coast, starting in Puerto Viejo, heading down to Manzanillo, going back up to Cahuita and ending in Tortuguero.

Tourists visiting Costa Rica, in search of exotic beaches, must understand the diffences between the countries two coast lines. When most Americans visualize a beach vacation, they imagine white sandy beaches, bountiful sunshine, and cocktails with the knockout power of Manny Pacquiao. However, the Caribbean Coast and Pacific Coast of Costa Rica are literally the difference of rain and sunshine. The Caribbean Coast is very tropical; it rains almost daily. Though it is quite hot and humid, cloud cover is quite common. The Caribbean Coast has quinteciential rainforest weather. On the plus side, the rainforest climate equates to wonderful variety of wildlife. Monkeys, sloths, and snakes thrive. Thus, if you’re looking for a sunshine vacation, it may be best to travel to the pacific coast. For instance, Manuel Antonio, or playa Jaco. The climate on the Pacific Coast is the epitome of an American Beach Vacation. The climate is more dry, and sunshine is as common as gallo pinto.
