Cool cats in Key West
We visited Key West last December on a short trip, mostly to see the Hemingway cats. While it wasn’t our favorite destination, we did like the architecture and laid-back atmosphere. Read the complete trip here.

Nice report. I’m curious to see how the destination experts at tripadvisor react to it.
Glenn – Thanks for reading! So far, it seems like people have received the report in the spirit that I intended. I don’t love every place I visit – and I don’t have to. What I try to do is think about what kind of traveler would enjoy a particular place and what I can share from my experience that might help them out.
You are correct in your assessment, it is a lot like Nola & it isn’t for everyone. You did miss some pretty good places to eat though as well as to just hang out – Mangoes is great for lunch & also great w/kids. Although it can be a bit pricey, it is well worth it, especially due to the location. Pepe’s (across the street from BO’s) is my favorite ‘hangover breakfast’ spot & good most anytime. For top shelf dining, I like A & B Lobster House & to just hang out & have a few oysters & hush puppies w/a beer or 3 – try the Half Shell or if you want a unique experience, the Garden of Eden. Also probably one of the more ‘gay-friendly’ destinations in the US.
SA – Thanks for writing. Some good recs here that I’ll definitely put on a list if we end up going back to check out Dry Tortuga (probably not this year, but maybe in 2011/12). I am generally drawn to off-beat. quirky (and yes, gay friendly) places like New Orleans – which is why I was surprised that we didn’t care for Key West. But, we can always give it another try – we might like it better if we go with friends. Thanks again for reading!
