Blogging/Journalism — By Chris on December 4, 2009 at 10:37 am
Look! A pretty beach!
That’s Grand Anse in Grenada, a country that has suffered mightily from airlift cuts this year. That’s not the real point of this post, though.
I am honored and humbled by all the support I received yesterday. The HuffPo pickup hit while I was still finishing up today’s section (read Jayne Clark’s Morocco story here and Laura Bly’s story on elite frequent flyers here), and I was nervous about the reaction. But I received lots of hugs and well wishes from the people there who mattered the most to me. I would go through fire for those guys (well..at least walk on coals. That have cooled a bit. With a margarita in my hand). They are the best in the business.
And my Tweeps! Man, you guys were great. All of the retweets and well wishes really made me realize that Twitter is, at the very least, one of the nicest corners of the Internet. I’m going to get in touch with most of you personally to thank you. Seriously, it turned what could have been a rotten day into one that was….well, not so rotten.
I love the conversation that’s going on here in my comments about the future of journalism. Serious stuff, and everyone should say their piece.
But this website, ultimately, is about travel. Now that I have more time to devote to it, expect to see some changes in the next few months:
1. You’ll see more travel news, as I still consider myself a travel journalist.
2. You’ll see more guest posts. I know some talented writers and photographers in the industry who were also laid off, and I’d love to give them something to do, at least until they find paying work.
3. You’ll see more photos, as I finally fix the bugs that have been screwing up my photo gallery.
4. You’ll continue to see destination coverage, as well as posts about memorable restaurant experiences. I refuse to become Chris Around the House.
5. And finally, you’ll start seeing ads (I hope). This site had been a personal passion for me, so I never solicited them before. Now I’m open to CVBs, hotels or other businesses that would like to discuss partnerships. I hope to have a business plan together by the end of the holidays.
So…wheels up! Let’s see the world – together.
