Best Travel Experience of 2009

Caribbean — By on December 31, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Sunset over Bequia

I rarely sit and veg when I’m on vacation. Even if I’m not working, I still feel compelled to see everything that I possibly can, duck into hotels to check out rooms, take notes for future stories, post on my blog.  I can’t help it. It’s the way I’m wired.

The Grenadines cured me.

As soon as we arrived on tiny Bequia, my husband and I turned into total lumps. All we did was read, swim, go out on boats and stare at the perfect turquoise water. I don’t think I touched the computer for five days. It was the most relaxing vacation that I’ve ever had. Whenever I’m stressed, I dream about it.

Luckily, I don’t have to wait too long to go back. I’ll be sailing on the Island Windjammer on Jan. 10, on assignment for CruiseCritic.com and our ports include Union Island, Tobago Cays, Mustique and lovely Bequia. So I’ll get to experience that piece of heaven again.

And that wraps up 2009! Here’s to fantastic travel experiences in 2010….

  • My best travel experience for 2009 was seeing that my love of travel was passed on to my kids. My son enjoyed his first solo international trip, my daughter and I had a couple of trip for just us girls.

I have traveled for business for 24 years and am very glad to see that my being on the road during all their years did not turn them off to the wonderful experience of travel. I see my life portrayed in the ‘Up in the Air’ movie with the road warrior life, but I’m very lucky to have great relationships with my entire family and we all love to travel and be together.

Carol – Aw, that’s really sweet! I think it’s important that kids travel and that a love of exploring new places is installed early. It’s great that they were able to absorb the best aspects of your experiences.

Here’s to great travels in 2010!
