Photo Friday: The Pantheon, Rome

by Chris on April 8, 2011

This week’s Photo Friday contains one of my favorite buildings: The Pantheon in Rome.

Pictures of the Pantheon in Rome

My favorite building of all time is the Pantheon, in Rome. I’m not sure why I’m drawn to it so much. Maybe it’s because it’s one of the oldest monuments of the Roman Empire that’s still left standing. Or maybe it’s that after more than 2,000 years, the Pantheon’s dome is still the world’s largest made of  unreinforced concrete. All I know is that it’s the first place – and last place – I like to visit on trips to the Eternal City.

My favorite is the Trevi Fountain, or Fontana di Trevi. I go there every single time I go to Rome. Though, due to the massive crowds, it’s hard to enjoy it unless it’s 3 a.m. Nonetheless, I try to block everyone out and imagine it’s just me and the beauty of that monument.

@Kelly – I love Trevi Fountain as well. So romantic. But you’re right about the crowds!
