Photo Friday: Orchid Flowers Photo, Philadelphia Flower Show

by Don Faust on May 4, 2012

This week’s Photo Friday: Colorful orchid flowers photo from the Philadelphia Flower Show.

This is the latest of our weekly travel photo series, inspired by #FriFotos on Twitter.

Orchid Flowers Photo, Philadelphia Flower Show

This week’s #FriFoto theme is FLOWERS.  Orchids are my favorite type of flower – not only because they are exotic, but because there are so many different varieties and bizarre shapes.  The photo above, of a moth orchid, was taken at the Philadelphia Flower Show, an annual event drawing thousands of visitors.  The moth orchid is fairly common – even so, it’s very vibrant and its structure produces some very nice details, especially for close-up photography.

Hey, thanks everyone! Although this photo was shot at a Flower and Garden show, if you ever get the chance to visit Philly, you must take a day to drive almost down to the Delaware border and see Longwood Gardens, an old Dupont property. It has the most extensive collection of orchids I have ever seen.
