This week’s Photo Friday theme is Festive. We loved the Christmas lights strewn around the buildings in downtown Victoria, British Columbia.

This week’s Photo Friday theme (#FriFotos on Twitter) is Festive. For Christmas 2010, Don and I went to Victoria, British Columbia for the holidays. We loved how the city went all out with its lights, including outlining the Parliament building.

Wondering how you’re going to handle TSA airport security during the holidays? A regulation refresher of what you can and can’t bring.
TSA Airport Security

This post previously appeared on “TSA bans holiday cheer,” read a tweet issued from a Transportation Security Administration ( spoof account at the beginning of December. And that’s not so hard to believe, as passengers struggle to endure the busy travel season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. What maddens people most? Long lines at security checkpoints […]

Where does Santa live? The Finns (and many other Europeans) say Lapland, which has profited greatly from the exposure.
A visit with Santa, Lapland, Finland

The business of Santa is alive and well in Lapland, which seems to have cornered the market on all things St. Nick, at least for Europeans. With our boxes of stuff finally unpacked, we wanted to celebrate without pulling out boxes of decorations. We needed a short get away. But where? Choosing […]

Are you a Thanksgiving orphan? How sometimes the best Thanksgiving Day celebrations can take place with friends who become your family.
Thanksgiving orphans, when you can

Updated Thanksgiving 2011: We’re orphans again this year, happily. We’ll be spending the day on the Olympic Peninsula with one of my old friends and her husband, who I have yet to meet. I’m excited to see her again, as she’s one of my New Orleans bunch, a group of friends that I’ve felt particularly […]

6 tips for surviving holiday travel
Crowded Airport during the holidays

This week marks the official kickoff of the holiday travel season, perhaps the most stressful time to get from here to there, whether you’re on a plane, train or automobile. While I’m staying put this week, I’ll be joining my parents and sister in Florida for Christmas and going with friends to a yet-to-be-determined Bowl game for New Year’s (Go […]
